Western Province Provincial Series Wraps Up at Overberg BMX

Thirteen rounds, countless gate drops, plenty of podium battles and more than a few memorable moments later, the 2026 Western Province Provincial Points Series has officially crossed the finish line.

Overberg BMX Club played host to the final double-header on Sunday, 20 September, welcoming riders from across the Western Cape for Rounds 12 and 13.

With spring weather finally playing its part, conditions were ideal for a day of competitive racing. Race 12 attracted the larger fields, while Race 13 saw numbers drop considerably, resulting in merged classes and a surprisingly swift conclusion to the season.

As it turns out, fewer riders don't necessarily mean less action.

Race 12: One Last Push for Provincial Glory

With the season drawing to a close, riders had one final opportunity to make their mark on the provincial circuit.

Kraaifontein BMX Club delivered a strong showing across the younger boys' categories. Liam Lubbe claimed victory in the 9–10 Novice Boys, Joel Isaacs secured the 7–8 Expert Boys win, and Mikail Goliath topped the 11–12 Novice Boys category.

Princesvlei BMX Club also enjoyed an impressive round, with Thomas Fisher, Summer Neil, Keelan Adonis, Chris Fisher and Wanga Moshani all claiming category victories. Five wins across the board certainly gave the club plenty to celebrate.

In the expert divisions, Zone 7 BMX Club continued to demonstrate its strength, with Mason Hendry taking top honours in the 9–10 Expert Boys and Cruz Hendry winning the 13–14 Expert Boys. Clearly, speed runs in the Hendry family.

Songo.info was equally well represented on the winners' list, with Lunje Dindili, Mihali Stuurman, Ovayo Ntsenge, Bradley Stow and Nicole Stow all securing victories.

With strong performances across multiple clubs and categories, Race 12 delivered a fitting final opportunity for riders to showcase their progress throughout the season

Race 13: Small Fields, Fast Racing

If Race 12 was about the numbers, Race 13 was about efficiency.

Following the opening round, several riders packed up and headed home, leaving 41 competitors to contest the final race of the series.

Whether it was the journey home calling or the promise of a well-earned Sunday afternoon off, the reduced field meant organisers had to merge several classes.

The result was a compact, fast-moving race programme that kept riders and officials on their toes.

Motos followed in quick succession, finals arrived before the usual paddock conversations could get going, and the final round was completed in remarkably good time.

For the riders who stayed, there was still plenty of racing to be done and one final opportunity to finish the season on a high.

A Season Worth Celebrating

With the final gates dropped and the last results recorded, the 2026 Western Province Provincial Points Series has come to a close.

Across 13 rounds, riders have demonstrated commitment, resilience and the competitive spirit that continues to drive BMX racing in the Western Cape.

From the youngest novices finding their confidence on the track to experienced riders competing for those all-important provincial points, every round has contributed to another successful season of racing.

Of course, none of it happens without the people behind the scenes.

A sincere thank you to Overberg BMX Club for hosting the final double-header, and to the officials, commissaires, volunteers and clubs who contributed their time and effort throughout the series.

To the parents and supporters who have spent countless weekends travelling between tracks, preparing bikes, cheering from the sidelines and occasionally offering a little too much advice from the fence — your contribution is invaluable.

And most importantly, congratulations to every rider who competed during the 2026 season.

Whether your year was filled with podium finishes, personal bests or lessons learned the hard way, every gate drop was another opportunity to grow.

Thirteen rounds. One provincial series. A season of racing worth remembering.

And just like that, the 2026 Western Province Provincial Points Series is officially in the books.

Until the next gate drops — keep the wheels turning, the elbows out and the rubber side down.
